Switzerland to Represent Russia in Georgia
Moscow and Tbilisi have agreed with Switzerland that the latter will stand for Russia in Georgia.
The respective agreement was generally talked over with Russia far back in early October, but Georgia had the decisive word, Swiss foreign ministry made clear in an official statement. The decision was made over the recent weeks, in the course of negotiations in Moscow and Tbilisi.

Russia requested Switzerland to represent it in Georgia after Tbilisi broke off diplomatic relations in response to the August 2008 conflict in South Ossetia.

RF President Dmitry Medvedev negotiated the issue during his October visit to Switzerland, when he met with Swiss President Pascal Couchepin.

The Alps confederation has amassed great experience in similar issues. Nowadays, Switzerland stands for the United States in Cuba and Iran and represents Cuba in the United States.

As to Georgia’s representation in Russia, the issue hasn’t been sorted out. Tbilisi has officially applied to Sweden for this purpose but the final decision is yet to be made.
