Putin Distributes Cultural Prizes
The laureates of the 2006 State Award for Culture have gained world fame and preserved cultural heritage of Russia, President Vladimir Putin said when awarding prize winners in the George Hall of the Kremlin, ITAR-TASS reported.
Amid the awarded were Nikolay Borodachev, Irina Vasina and Vladimir Dmitriev, all of them employees of the State Film Fund, which is the largest film archive storage of the world. “Thanks to their painstaking restoration work, the vast collection will be handed in to future generations full-scale,” the president said.

The State Film Fund emerged in 1948. Nowadays, it keeps over 55,000 films covering all years of world movies.

Olga Borodina, who is the starring opera singer of Russia’s legendary Mariisnky Theater, and Svelana Zakharova, the prominent ballet dancer of famous Bolshoi Theater, were awarded as well. “They are rightfully regarded the stars of the world and we are proud that these stars have lighted under the sky of Russia,” the president emphasized.

Owner of the voice of rarest beauty – the coloratura mezzo-soprano – Olga Borodina enjoys global celebrity. Graduate of Leningrad Conservatoire, she was immediately welcomed by Mariinsky Theater, where she became a leading singer.

Svetlana Zakharova finished Kiev Choreographic College and perfected her talent in St. Petersburg, in Vaganova Academy of Russia’s Ballet. A starring dancer of Mariinsky, Zakharova was lured to Moscow Bolshoi Theater, which benefits from her performance in the recent years.
